[Blog] I Miss a Favourite Player
Written by Sindre94 on Monday, 12th Mar 2012 01:12

It's late, and I'm sitting here thinking of the good days when Pablo Couñago was my favourite player, without a doubt.

I look at our current team now, and are there any potential club players around? Do we have that player who loves Ipswich more than anything? The new Bam Bam, the new Pablo, the new Mogga? Anyone?

Well, it's quite sad in a way, cause that is what football was all about before, passion for the club you played for and a true hunger to give it your best for YOUR beloved football club. Wouldn't it be nice if we had a player thinking like us fans, eh? Personally I would love that.

If I just ONCE could go into the head of JET and make him think like me: WIN THAT TACKLE, WIN THAT BALL! Anything for Ipswich!

It's not like they don't care at all, I just think many of the modern footballers are more than happy to raise their weekly cash and spend it on some posh car, while us fans who keep Ipswich alive are working hard for each and every penny, just to watch Town. I'm going off track now, but I don't mind, I just want to say what I want to say.

If Michael Chopra had kissed the Ipswich badge after he scored and stayed here for five years then retired I would be more than happy, it would prove to me that he loves our club, and I think he LIKES it, at least I have the impression he does!

At the moment we don't have many players who have served our club for more than two years, the sad thing is that a player like Grant Leadbitter is one of the longest serving players in the current squad, that says a lot.

As I am Norwegian and cant afford to go to more than perhaps two or three matches each season. I wonder how it is to see us perform like we did at Burnley, a gutless and careless performance, it must hurt, right?

But will we ever get a new Kevin Beattie, or a new Micky Mills? I don't think so, but I am allowed to hope!?

For that to happen we need consistency and a long-term plan. We don't need to debate on whether Paul Jewell should be here or not but we can't keep sacking managers if we want club-players, that just wont happen.

You don't really need a doctor's education to understand that new managers want new players, and that will stop the consistency of long-serving players at the club.

For Ipswich to have a Stevie G, a Carragher, a John Terry or even a Paul Scholes would be amazing. Perhaps Aaron Cresswell could be THAT player, or maybe Luke Hyam.

Nostalgia have taken over my head at the moment, I can't stop thinking of the days when we had Bam Bam etc. Hopefully we'll get THAT player in the future... COYB

When I was a kid, it was without doubt veteran johnny wak, Paul mason and then Marty Holland. But if I had kids now, I'd have no idea who's name to put on the shirt. We've ad such a high turnover of players, we have indeed lost a bit of an identity in the playing staff. Lets hope this apparently settled 16 stay together for. Long time!

Realy liked the blog made me think about what makes this type of player

These days if a player, once in the first team, stays for over 3 years he can be put up as a fav player. The box to box type player is on most peoples list and I also think it is not normaly the most talented player but one that makes the most of what he has got. Being a home grown player helps, but in most cases it's someone the fans could think ' I could have been that player'

I go for Dury being our next 'that type' of player'

and don't get me started on that B#lls##t of a player kissing the badge

fans favourites need a 'thing'

Shefki's swan dive
Marcus Stewart and his wooly gloves(plus he did score lots..)
Matt Holland played EVERY game
Johnny Wark scored screamers (SHOOOOOOOOTTTTT)
Mogga and Butch both stuck their stupid heads in where noone else would

etc etc etc

Lots of contradictions in there.

Pablo was a lazy sod who took about £6m out of the club and gave very little back.

He had one good season.

Undoubted natural talent, which he very rarely made the most of.

Waster. Sorry.

Blue_Fred...

good points. Nothing beats Hermann's north stand dive! (although it was more of a one-off than a 'thing')

Good post Sindre.
But forget Bam bam and pablo these were the boys......
70's Beattie/Hunter /Woods/Whymark. Beattie should have been an English legend and if Hunter was English he would have been a Wembley favourite.
80's Wark/Dozell - Wark Legend - Dozell had all the attributes to be a serious player.maybe he left town too early?
90's Mowbray/Dyer/Scowcroft/Holland
2000's Magilton/Holland/Bent/ De Vos / Herman

Lest we forget Sixto Peralta during the 2002 season. Fantastico.!!

Its early for this team and loyalties have changed but if i was a betting man i say we have a few possible favourites in the current team and they are:-
JET, Cresswell and Martin now that Bullard has clearly shown himself to be a clown.
We need some heroes PJ and SG so please buy carefully this summer.COYB.

Butcher was immense for us and a Suffolk lad too. England captain, good with both feet, comfortable on the ball and a real grafter....broke his heart when he had to be sold.....and mine!

No one has mentioned Franz Thyssen....made our midfield tick and brought the best out of Muhren and Gates...ah...those were the days!

This blog says much about the mentality of many supporters. Pablo play-when-you-feel-like-it Counago is a saint, yet Grant 110% effort Leadbitter is the target of casual derision. Give the guy a break.

Pablo loved Town SouperJim, not too sure Granty does.

Of course he did, the fans backed him through thick and thin, regardless of his performances. Maybe if we showed Leadbitter the same loyalty he would respond in kind.

i remember listening to a then sgr FM covered match with one alex mathie commentating, when the town scored you could hear the elation in his voice and the tumbling of chairs and tables as he went mad in the booth. oh and his first half hat trick against the scum.
legend p.s great blog mate
